Key Points

  • Because it can be compared with deposit and bond rates, it is the core metric for income-focused investors.
  • A high yield can come from generous payouts or from a falling price; a low yield may mean the company reinvests profit in growth.
  • past dividends may not be repeated, and a one-off special payout temporarily inflates the yield.

Formula / Calculation

Dividend yield = Gross dividend per share paid in the last 12 months / Current share price × 100. Some sources include declared but unpaid dividends; Yatırımcı.AI shows the ratio provided by its data vendor.

Interpretation

A high yield can come from generous payouts or from a falling price; a low yield may mean the company reinvests profit in growth. Interpret the yield against the CBRT policy rate and inflation.

Do not confuse dividend yield with the dividend rate. The gross or net dividend rate in KAP dividend announcements is the amount paid per share divided by the share’s nominal value; for a share with a nominal value of TRY 1, a 150% rate means TRY 1.50 per share. Dividend yield divides the same amount by the market price instead of the nominal value.

Pitfalls

past dividends may not be repeated, and a one-off special payout temporarily inflates the yield. After payment the share price drops by the dividend amount (ex-dividend adjustment). Withholding tax is deducted from gross dividends, so the net yield is lower.
